Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are documents published by a product manufacturer that describes the basic product chemistry, and the hazards that apply to that product and recommended means of working with the product. They usually apply to liquids such as paint, solvents, cleaners, chemicals and lubricants.

There are relevant emergency responses to incidents involving the product, including ingestion advice, spill advice, skin and eye contact and any other emergency advice.

The MSDS’s are held in the depot administrative office and in the running shed. Staff that need to work products with which they are not familiar should refer to the relevant MSDS before commencing work.

When purchasing products not previously held by CKS, an MSDS must be obtained at the time of purchase. It is the suppliers responsibility to provide the document. MSDS’s are also available online from the manufacturers web site and can be download on site if required

See CKS SMS Vol 1 section 4.9 for more information.
